How do you feel about birds?

I think birds are great to have around, especially in the mornings when the birds are chirping, I think it really makes the world feel alive and full of vivaciousness.

How do Chinese people feel about birds?

Watching birds flying always make Chinese feel a sense of freedom and their chirps sounds very cheerful. We still feel that a bird should not be trapped in a cage and it should have open space like us.

Have you seen many different kinds of birds?

Yes. I see a lot of magpie chirpings around my window and I like them because in Chinese culture, magpie stands for good luck. I can see swallow in a lake near my flat, there are some gorgeous swans. They make the lake fantastic.

Do any birds have any particular significance in China? For example, does China have a national bird?

Actually in my country, people really have superstitions regarding birds, for example, magpies are a sign of good luck and swallows signal new life while crows symbol misfortune.

Do you think birds should be protected?

I think everything deserves a chance at life, humans are constant exploiting birds for medicinal purposes and its very common for people to eat wild birds in China, I really think wild birds should be protected because they are a important part of the ecosystem.

Do Chinese people like raising pet birds?

Yes they do. In China, there are streets just for birds and bird cages. People make parakeets, cockatiels, and parrot as their pets. They are great companions for the elderly.

Have you ever raised a pet bird?

Yes, I do. I used to live in an apartment that was just too small to house a dog, so I keep a Cockatiel as a pet bird. It gave me great companions.

  What did you feed it?

Well, Cockatiel required a nutritionally balanced diet for a long and healthy life. Cockatiel consumed a variety of people foods such as leafy greens, spaghetti, yogurt, lean cooked meats such as chicken, small amounts of cheese and boiled eggs. If the food is not healthy for humans, it will not be healthy for my Cockatiel.

What kinds of birds are there where you live?

Im not a big fan of birds so I dont really know the name, but the birds I see around my area are mostly black birds that have a yellow beak, oh, and I can also see some swallows during the spring.

Are there any birds that have disappeared?

Well I recall that when I was young there were a lot of wild blue jays in my neighborhood, but now due to all the construction thats going on in my hometown. We dont see a lot of them anymore.

Do you think birds are important?

Yes, birds are important to human beings, because they are essential links in maintaining ecological balance. It would be hard to imagine a world without birds, the sky would become dead calm and forests would be silenced too. I believe that we cant live without them.
