課時作業(三十三) [選修7 Unit 3 Under the sea](限時:35分鐘) [2024·浙江卷] 閱讀理解(復活節)is still a great day for worship, candy in baskets and running around the yard finding eggs, but every year it gets quite a bit worse for bunnies.not because the kids like to pull their ears. The culprit is climate change, and some researchers found that rising temperatures are having harmful effects on at least five species of rabbit in the US.
Take the Lower Keys Marsh rabbit, for instance. An endangered species that lives in the Lower Florida Keys, this species of cottontail is a great swimmer—it lives on the islands!—but it is already severely affected by development and now by rising sea levels. According to the Center for Biological Diversity, an ocean level rise of only 0.6 meters will send these guys jumping to higher ground and a 0.9-meter rise would wipe out their habitat(棲息地)completely.
The snowshoe hare, on the other hand, has a color issue. Most of these rabbits change their fur color from white in the wintertime to brown in the summer, each designed to give them better cover from predators(捕食者). As the number of days with snow decreases all across the country, however, more and more bunnies are being left in white fur during brown dirt days of both fall and spring, making them an easier mark for predators. Researchers know that the color change is controlled by the number of hours of sunlight, but whether the rabbit will be able to adapt quick enough to survive is a big question. The National Wildlife Federation has reported that hunters have noticed their numbers are already markedly down.
American pikas or rock rabbits, a relative of rabbits and hares, might be the first of these species to go extinct due to climate change. About 7-8 inches long, pikas live high in the cool, damp mountains west of the Rocky Mountains. As global temperatures rise, they would naturally migrate(遷移) to higher ground—but they already occupy the mountaintops. They can't go any higher. The National Wildlife Federation reports that they might not be able to stand the new temperatures as their habitat heats up.
The volcano rabbit has the same problem. These rabbits live on the slopes of volcanoes in Mexico, and recent studies have shown that the lower range of their habitat has already shifted upward about 700 meters, but there are not suitable plants for them to move higher, so they are stuck in the middle. Scientists are concerned about their populations.
Native to the US, pygmy rabbits weigh less than 1 pound and live in the American West. They are believed to be the smallest rabbits in the world. Their habitats have been destroyed by development. Several populations, such as the Columbia Basin pygmy, almost went extinct and were saved by zoo breeding programs. Pygmy rabbits also rely on winter cover by digging tunnels through the snow to escape predators, but lesser snowfall is leaving them exposed.
All of this gives new meaning to dressing up in a giant bunny costume this Easter.

Mr. Green and his children usually spend some time watching TV in the evening. But they don't like the same TV program. His children like pop music very much, but Mr. Green hates it .
One evening at the weekend, the children wanted to watch Top of the Pops. They told their father it was performed by the Gorgons, a new group. Mr. Green had to give in. The children enjoyed the program very much while Mr. Green thought that the music sounded terrible and the group all looked like wild men. He didn't listen to them.

My father was 44 and knew he wasn’t going to make it to 45.He wrote me a letter and hoped that something in it would help me for the rest of my life.
Since the day I was 12 and first read his letter, some of his words have lived in my heart. One part always stands out.“Right now,you are pretending to be a time-killer.But I know that one day,you will do something great that will set you among the very best.”Knowing that my dad believed in me gave me permission to believe in myself.“You will do something great.” He didn’t know what that would be,and neither did I,but at times in my life when I’ve felt proud of myself,I remember his words and wish he were here,so I could ask,“Is this what you were talking about,Dad?Should I keep going?”
A long way from 12 now,I realize he would have been proud when I made any progress.Lately, though,I’ve come to believe he would want me to move on to what comes next:to be proud of and believe in,somebody else. It’s time to start writing my own letters to my children. Our children look to us with the same unanswered question we had.Our kids don’t hold back because they’re afraid to fail. They’re only afraid of failing us.They don’t worry about being disappointed.Their fear—as mine was until my father’s letter—is of being a disappointment.
Give your children permission to succeed. They’re waiting for you to believe in them.I always know my parents love me.But trust me.That belief will be more complete, that love will be more real, and their belief in themselves will be greater if you write the words on their hearts:“Don’t worry;you’ll do something great.”Not having that blessing from their parents may be the only thing holding them back.

A.Children need their parents’ letters.
B.Children are afraid to be disappointed.
C.His children’s fear of failure held them back.
D.His father’s letter removed his fear of failing his parents.
18.Which of the following is TRUE of the author?
A.He got no access to success.B.He wrote back to his father at 12.
C.He was sure his parents loved him.
D.He once asked his father about the letter.
19.The main purpose of the text is to________.
A.describe children’s thinking
B.answer some questions children have
C.stress the importance of communication
D.advise parents to encourage their children
Ⅲ.任務型讀寫(建議用時14′)
Real policemen hardly recognize any resemblance between their lives and what they see on TV.
The first difference is that a policeman’s real life revolved round criminal law. He has to know exactly what actions are crimes and what evidence can be used to prove them in court. He has to know nearly as much law as a professional lawyer, and what is more,he has to apply it on his feet,in the dark and rain, running down a street after someone he wants to talk to.
Little of his time is spent in chatting. He will spend most of his working life typing millions of words on thousands of forms about hundreds of sad, unimportant people who are guilty of stupid crimes.
Most television crime dramas are about finding the criminal: as soon as he’s arrested, the story is over. In real life, finding criminal is seldom much of a problem. Except in very serious cases like murders and terrorist attacks, little effort is spent on searching.
Having made an arrest,a detective really starts to work. He has to prove his case in court and to do that he often has to gather a lot of different evidence.
A third big difference between the drama detective and the real one is the unpleasant pressures: firstly,as members of a police force, they always have to behave absolutely in accordance with the law. Secondly,as expensive public servants, they have to get results. They can hardly ever do both. Most of the time some of them have to break the rules in small ways.
If the detective has to deceive the world, the world often deceives him. Hardly anyone he meets tells him the truth. And this separation the detective feels between himself and the rest of the world is deepened by the simple-minded—as he see it—of citizens, social workers,doctors,law-makers and judges, who, instead of eliminating crime, punish the criminals less severely in the hope that this will make them reform. The result, detective feel,is that nine-tenths of their work is re-catching people who should have stayed behind bars. This makes them rather cynical (憤世嫉俗的).
