A care for+ 名詞/動名詞與 like+ 名詞/ 動名詞的含義非常接近。
(a) Does/Did Tom care for living in the country?/Does/Did Tom likeliving in the country?
(b)You dont care for science fiction,do you?/You dont like sciencefiction,do you?
I dont care for it./I dont like it much./Oh yes, I like it.
Does Ann care for horror movies?
如用 would you care(for)?
B would care和 would like
would care for+ 名詞或would care+ 不定式與would like+ 名詞/不定式相似。 用would you care(for)?表示的建議不如用would you like?
(a)Tom:Would you care for a lift,Ann?
(b)Tom:Would you care to see my photos,Ann?
Id like to see them very much.
同在肯定句中一樣,這里用would like代替 would care。
I wouldnt care to live on the 35th floor.
Oh,Id rather like it.
would care for/would like有時可與動名詞連用。
C would have cared(for)和 would have liked
Ann:Id have liked to go with Tom.
Bill:But he walked all the way! You wouldnt have cared for/have likedthat, would you?/Would you have cared for/have liked that?
D 請不要將care的上述用法與care for和care(about)混淆:
1 care for(=look after照顧)主要用于被動語態:
The old people were cared for by their families.
2 care(about)(=feel concerned
I dont care(about)與 I dont mind意思相似。 I dont care:
It will be very expensive.
I dont care/mind./I dont care about/mind the expense./I don tcare/mind what it costs.
但請注意 I dont care(about)意指I am indifferent(to)(我滿不在乎,漠不關心)而I dont mind意指 I dont object(to)(我不反對),如 He/It dosent worry/upset/annoy me(他/這不使我發愁/心緒煩亂/煩惱)。
I dont mind 遠遠比 I dont care更有禮貌,而且 I dont care
Dont you care/mind what happens to him?
Didnt you care/mind what happened?
Do you care?
Are you concerned?/Do you feel concern?
而Do you mind?常常是Do you object?(你反對嗎?)
