A 這幾個詞用做形容詞時，要與所修飾的名詞在數上一致。它們是唯一隨名詞的數的變化而變化的形容詞。
This beach was quite empty last year.
去年這個海灘很空蕩。
This exhibition will be open until the end of May.
這次展覽會要開到5月底。
These people come from that hotel over there.
這些人是從那邊那個飯店來的。
What does that notice say?
那個通知說什么?
That exhibition closed a month ago.
那個展覽一個月前就閉幕了。
He was dismissed on the 13th.That night the factory went on fire.
他在13號被解雇。那天晚上工廠失火了。
Do you see those birds at the top of the tree?
你看到樹梢上的那些鳥了嗎?
有時為了表示強調，用this/these/that/those+名詞+of+your/hers等或Anns等這一結構，而不用 your/her等+名詞結構：
This diet of mine/My diet isnt having much effect.
我節食的方法效果不大。
That car of Anns/Anns car is always breaking down.
安的那輛車老要壞。
由這樣的短語構成的話通常具有令人不滿的貶義，但不一定總是這樣。
B this/these/，that/those用做代詞：
This is my umbrella.Thats yours.
這把傘是我的。那是你的。
These are the old classrooms. Those are the new ones.
這些是舊教室。那些是新的。
-Whos that(man over there)?
-Thats Tom Jones.
-那(邊的那個男人)是誰?
-那是湯姆瓊斯。
播送完一個節目時說：
That was the concerto in C minor by Vivaldi.
剛剛播送的是維瓦爾迪作曲的C小調協奏曲。
介紹時可用this is：
Ann(to Tom)：This is my brother Hugh.
安(對湯姆)：這是我弟弟休。
Ann(to Hugh)：Hugh，this is Tom Jones.
安(對休)：休，這是湯姆瓊斯。
Telephone caller：Good morning. This is/I am Tom Jones
打電話者：早上好，我是湯姆瓊斯
I am這一說法要比this is稍微正式一些。如果打電話者不認識受話者，一般用I am。打電話者的姓名+ here(如：Tom here)要比this is+打電話者的姓名更隨便一些。those后邊可以跟限定性關系從句：
Those who couldnt walk were carried on stretchers.
那些不能走的人都用擔架抬著。
this/that可指前邊已經提到的名詞、短語或從句：
They are digging up my road.They do this every summer.
他們正在挖我那條路。他們每年夏天都這樣做。
He said I wasnt a good wife.Wasnt that a horrible thing to say?
他說我不是個好妻子。那話不是很傷人么?
C this/these， that/those與one/ones連用：
要表達比較或選擇的意思時，this/these，that/those這些指示形容詞后常跟代詞one/ones。但是，除了this/these，that/those后跟有形容詞的情況外，one/ones可以省略：
This chair is too low.Ill sit in that(one).
這把椅子太矮了。我要坐那一把。
I like this(one) best.
我最喜歡這個。
I like this blue one/these blue ones.
我喜歡這個藍的/這些藍的。
