aftershock 地震余震

　　　　對于剛剛發(fā)生的夏威夷地震，雖然至今無人員傷亡報道，但因地震引起的山體滑坡、大范圍停電事件，仍讓夏威夷西海岸的居民驚恐萬分。據(jù)報，此次地震為6.6級，在地震發(fā)生后還出現(xiàn)數(shù)次強(qiáng)烈余震，其中一次震級在5.8級。

　　　　報道中的aftershock指的是余震，即大地震之后在同一地區(qū)發(fā)生的一系列小震級的地震。在日常生活中，aftershock還可表示余悸，如：The industry continued to reel from aftershocks of a disastrous year.（工業(yè)在遭受災(zāi)年重創(chuàng)后依然搖擺不前。）

　　　　另外，報道中的magnitude指的是震級，而power outage表示停電、斷電。

　　　　最后，再提及兩個由after-構(gòu)成的合成詞。Aftereffect指余波、（藥物的）副作用，如：the aftereffects of influenza（流感遺留下的種種癥狀）；aftermath常指由事故或戰(zhàn)爭而引起的后果，如：famine as an aftermath of drought（旱災(zāi)后是饑荒）。
